On Wednesday evening, October 9, at 6pm, Fr. Jerome and I are hosting a newcomer gathering at the rectory. It's a great opportunity to introduce you to the parish and let you know of the many ministries that we offer you. It's also a great opportunity to meet your priests and for us to get to know you better. If you would like to attend, contact the office.
WOMEN'S ALTAR SOCIETY INFO MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 25!
I feel very strongly that we need a robust women's altar society in our parish. Our Altar Society does so much for our parish, and I don't mean menial tasks like ironing or washing. They provide community and spiritual enrichment for women. They raise funds to help the parish buy important items used during the Mass. They are often the women who provide leadership within the parish and advice to the pastor. If you are interested in learning more about the Altar Society, come to the rectory on Sept 25 at 7pm. There will be wine and cheese, and good conversation about what exactly an Altar Society does. All women over the age of 18 are invited.
HELP ME BUILD THE MARIAN GARDEN AND SHRINE TO HONOR OUR BLESSED LADY
As we move forward in our plans to build a beautiful Marian Garden on our east lawn, I want to remind you of the opportunity to purchase a commemorated brick. Perhaps your name or your family's name. Perhaps the name of departed loved one. For only $150, you can be a part of building something spiritually significant. Gifts of $1,000 or more will be commemorated with a plaque.
A NOTE ABOUT THE UPCOMING ELECTION
It's very important that we not allow politics to worm its way into our parish life. We are Catholics first, then members of political parties. (I belong to neither party, by the way; an Independent). We should have friendships that span the political spectrum. Despite political differences, we should remember that we are brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ. And also this: our political opponents are not our enemies. Any vitriol or hateful political speech is not good Christian behavior. For me, I have come to a point in my life where I am not that interested in politics, but I once was and I understand political passion. However, I never was so into politics that I would lose a friendship over a political opinion.
SMALL FAITH GROUPS ARE FORMING AND BEGINNING THEIR STUDY
It's not too late to sign up for a small faith group. This autumn, the focus is on St. Peter and his struggle to follow the Lord faithfully. The book being used is Peter Keys to Following Jesus by Tim Gray. These small faith groups have a long history of success here in our parish. They have proven to be a great way to build the faith and to build community. I strongly urge you to consider joining one.
