BACK TO SCHOOL! WHAT ARE THE LESSONS WE HOPE TO TEACH?
Lesson #1: God loves you.
We were created by God and made in his image and likeness. He loves us so much that he sent us his only Son to be our Savior while we were still sinners. He loves us despite our sins and failures. He gave us free-will so that we might choose to love him above all things.
Lesson #2: Parents are the first educators.
No one is more important than parents when it comes to teaching the faith to their children. As educators and clergy, we can make a strong impact, but we can never take the place of a parent. We must partner with parents and help them to see the vital role they have in their child’s faith formation.
Lesson #3: A Catholic school helps students become saints.
Jesus says that we must be holy just as our heavenly Father is holy. We are called to be saints. A saint is someone who gave his or herlife completely to God and remained faithful to him despite many obstacles. We strive for holiness knowing that we will never achieve it without God’s help.
Lesson #4: A Catholic school teacher imparts wisdom.
Teachers do more than give their students information and facts. Wisdom is the ability to understand, through faith, what God reveals to us.
Lesson #5: A Catholic school fosters academic excellence and spiritual growth.
Faith and reason are not mutually exclusive. They go hand in hand. “Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth.” –Pope St. John Paul II
Lesson #6: Love one another.
“No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13)
Lesson #7: Seek first the Kingdom of God.
Heaven is our goal and everything in life is seen through the lens of eternity.
Lesson #8: It is in giving that we receive.
Charity—giving without receiving—is the highest form of love. We call it Christian love. To love like Jesus, we must teach and practice self-emptying love. This is a BIG challenge given our individualistic culture. We need to teach our students that it’s not about what we get in life that matters but what we give away.
Lesson #9: You are a child of God.
God is the Father of all. He desires nothing less than our salvation. Knowing this about him changes how we see ourselves and others. The dignity and sanctity of all human life is a fundamental truth.
Lesson #10: God loves you.
His love for us is where we begin and end.

SCHOOL PARENTS, PLEASE READ
St Eugene offers a generous discount to families who are active members of the parish. To qualify for the parish membership rate, the expectation is that the family will be in Mass on a regular basis and will contribute to the parish.
We ask that all school parents wishing to receive the parish rate sign up for Faith Direct and give to the parish on a regular basis.
We are very generous with the parish rate during the first semester of school. At the end of the first semester, we will evaluate the pattern of giving and determine who will be eligible for the parish rate in the second semester.
