Catholic Charities has raised approximately $3 million of its goal of $3.5 million. If you haven't given, let me encourage you to do so before Thanksgiving. There are so many people here in the Oklahoma City metro who live on the fringes, especially the homeless. Catholic Charities has many services they offer to the poor and working poor of our area. It's holy work, and I know that you will be blessed if you make a donation.
ADVENT BY CANDLELIGHT
All women of the parish are invited to attend Advent by Candlelight on Dec. 1, immediately following the 5pm Mass. Dinner will be provided. This year's speaker is from Vagabond Missions. If you are interested in hosting a table, or attending as an individual, please email [email protected] or text Angie Thomas at 405.590.4108. The deadline is Sunday, Nov. 24th. This is an annual event here at St Eugene and is always spiritually fulfilling.
WHAT'S THE WORST TIME TO COMPLAIN TO A PRIEST?
For some odd reason, there is a breed of Catholic who assumes the best time to complain to their priest is just before Mass. I can't tell you how many times I've been caught by someone just minutes from Mass and forced to listen to them recite their grievances. Now, mind you, I am supposed to be praying during that time, or greeting people as they come in. The worst feeling is walking down the aisle after having been engaged in an argument with someone over some petty issue.
There are more constructive ways to complain, like making an appointment to talk things over calmly. The sanctity of the Mass should not be violated by disagreements.
REMEMBER TO PRAY FOR THE DEAD DURING NOVEMBER
November is a month in which Catholics intensify our prayers on behalf of the souls in purgatory. One great devotion is to go to a cemetery and pray your rosary. Or make a list of loved ones and friends who have died and spend an hour of adoration before the Blessed Sacrament on their behalf. Personally, I try and pray for my brother priests who have passed away. The souls in purgatory cannot pray for themselves, but we can aid them with our prayers.
