Apparently, central Oklahoma is facing very high levels of flu cases. I awoke early Tuesday morning with symptoms of the flu, and I have been down a few days with it. Fortunately, my physician called in an antiviral med, and, at this writing, I am feeling much better.
We have no plans to suspend distribution of the sacred cup, but I am sure that you know that you receive the fullness of Christ even if you forgo the cup. We believe that Christ is fully present in the consecrated bread and fully present in the consecrated wine.
You’re probably more likely to pick up a virus when shaking hands with people. I urge you to wash your hands thoroughly, and frequently I would also remind you that you could always make the sign of peace in some other way than shaking other peoples hands. A bow of the head, for example.
If you have a cough, I would urge you to wear a mask. If you are running a fever, I would encourage you to stay home. Remember, it is not a sin to miss Mass if one is ill.
Caritas Team Meeting on February 6
Catholic Charities is building a small neighborhood of micro apartments for people who otherwise would have to live on the streets. The apartments are 350 feet. They have a sitting area, room for a full size bed, a kitchen, a washer, dryer, combo, and a bathroom.
We here at St Eugene are going to be the sponsors of two of the cottages. What that means is that when someone moves into one of them, we will clean it and furnish it: bed, linens, small sofa, chair, dishes towels, etc. We will not have to replace the washer dryer combo.
We’re looking for a team of people willing to join this ministry. There will be an informational meeting about this on Thursday, February 6 at 7pm in the parish hall.
We anticipate that we would need to clean and furnish approximately twice a year. If we have enough people on the team, it won’t become a burden.
