In 1958, Fr. Jim Ross and around 50 to 60 families from Christ the King parish were tasked with building a new parish in north Oklahoma City. The parish was named St. Eugene, honoring Pope Eugene I, who served as Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church from 654 to 657. He was the patron saint of Bishop Eugene McGuinness, who served as Bishop of the Diocese of Oklahoma and Tulsa and died not long before our parish was founded.
From those humble beginnings in 1958 our parish has grown to more than 2,300 families, welcoming people of faith from every corner of the world. The continents of Africa, Asia, Europe, South America and North America are all represented here. Every year we celebrate the richness of the many diverse cultures of our parish at the “Festival of the Americas International.”
Under the leadership of Fr. Joseph Jacobi and with the support of hundreds of families, our current church was built; it was dedicated on April 20, 2012, by Archbishop Paul Coakley. The building seats 800 and includes a baldacchino over the altar. Stained glass adorns the nave, and a permanent baptismal font for infant and adult baptisms greets you upon entrance to the church.
Fr. Jim Goins became pastor of St. Eugene on June 28, 2022, and is assisted by his fellow clergy, professional staff members, and dedicated lay ministers and volunteers.
We invite you to come experience the hospitality and generosity of the people of St. Eugene, where we are rich in diversity, yet one in faith.
